March break is just around the corner and you’ve planned the ultimate road trip with your family. You are kissing the frigid temperatures goodbye and trading them in for some fun in the sun! Your wife or you have been planning this trip for the past few months. The gear is packed, suitcases are closed shut and spending money is in order. But what about your vehicle? Have you checked all the components and fluids? Battery? Spark plugs etc?
Tune ups are essential in keeping your vehicle running at an optimal level. Here’s three reasons why you should get a tune up before March Break (or any big road trip)
GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR FUEL
One of the most popular road trip locations is FLORIDA, you are driving over 4,000 km. You are going to be filling up around 8 times (based 500 kms per tank) from start to finish. Part of a tune up would include spark plugs (creates better fuel combustion), air filter change and fuel injector cleaner. A vehicle that hasn’t had these components changed could be looking at more fuel consumption and engine damage.
INSURE VEHICLE IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER
During your trip you don’t want to worry about losing oil. Losing oil can be a disastrous situation. No oil….no go! The PCV valve prevents oil leaks and keeps your seals in check. A PCV valve change is part of the tune up package. Unless something unexpected happens on the road, this valve change insures your vehicle will be in good working order.
AVOID COSTLY REPAIRS WHILE ON VACATION
The last thing you want to be doing on your vacation is making a visit to the local garage. This is not only an inconvenience for you and your family but be ready open your pocket book. A tune up is the best way to stay on the beach for your whole vacation.
EXTRA TIP: If you are going to Florida when its cold here in Canada, on the way back, fill up your tank on the Canadian side. Southern states do not have to worry about their gas freezing, therefore their fuel isn’t treated for temperature like ours.
